Pūtātara - Te Hiringa a Tāne Nui a Rangi

$3,600.00

This pūtātara has been meticulously crafted over several weeks to acknowledge the “essence of perseverance” through the pūrākau of Tāne Nui a Rangi’s ascent to the upper most realm of Te Toi o Ngā Rangi. This pūrakau has been intricately carved into the design of this taonga with more detail below.

The haehae (curved grooves) detail the arduous path ventured by Tāne through all 12 realms to reach Te Toi a Ngā Rangi. Reflecting the sacred journeys that we undertake through the shifting realms of life.

The pākati (notches) reflect the emissaries that were casted upon Tāne by his brother Whiro te Tipua. A reminder of challenges that we are able to overcome.

Six intricate paua have been inlaid to denote the various forms that Tāne assumes.

Tāne Māhuta (of the forest)

Tāne Mātua (of mankind)

Tāne Whakapiripiri (of the sheltering canopy)

Tāne Matau (of rainless thunder)

Tāne Te Waiora (of restorative waters)

Tāne Te Wānanga (of knowledge)

The form of Tāne Nui a Rangi is represented by the carved upoko near the mouth piece, with two sides to show his growth and transformation during the ascent.
